Deeper Dive:
How to Cleanse & Care for Your Jewelry
Your jewelry is more than an accessory — it’s a piece of your story, your tangible reminder. Whether it carries sentimental meaning, symbolism, or simply makes you feel radiant, it deserves a little care to keep its beauty and intention alive. There are a few ways to take care of your pieces - on a physical and/or energetic level. Here are some ways you can care for your special adornments that I hope you'll find useful:
1. Use a Polishing Cloth
A soft jewelry polishing cloth is the gentlest way to remove fingerprints, smudges, and natural tarnish. Keep one on hand for a quick shine-up before you head out the door. Each order will come with a complimentary polishing cloth safe for your precious metals. Additionally, I'd recommend the Stuller Sunshine cloths for an effective yet gentle polish!
2. Mild Soap & Water
For most metals and many stones, a little warm water with a drop of mild soap is all you need. Gently scrub with a soft brush (like a baby toothbrush), rinse, and pat dry. Tip: avoid soaking or scrubbing porous stones like turquoise, opal, satin spar, or pearls — they’re delicate and prefer a quick gentle clean.
3. Always Dry Thoroughly
After cleaning (or if you accidentally swam/showered in your jewelry) be sure your pieces are completely dry. Moisture can cause tarnishing and weaken certain metal and settings over time. A soft, lint-free cloth works best.
4. Skip Harsh Chemicals
Household cleaners, bleach, vinegar, or abrasive scrubs can damage both metal and stones. Stick to gentle, jewelry-safe methods — your jewelry will thank you.
5. Store with Care
Tangles and scratches happen when jewelry is tossed together. Use individual pouches, boxes, or compartments to protect each piece, especially for softer stones. Each order will come with its own jewelry box for your convenience.
6. Cleanse Energetically
Some optional steps to cleanse beyond the physical
- Salt: Salt has long been used in historical and biblical times for purification and grounding, and it's a simple option to incorporate in cleansing your pieces on an energetic level. You can place pieces on a bed of sea salt (or Himalayan salt) overnight, or mix in salt in water if rinsing or letting them soak. (be sure not to soak porous or soft stones, nor is it advised to soak for long periods of time.)
- Moonlight: Just like stones, your jewelry can benefit from the glow of the full moon, on a symbolic level. Set your pieces on a windowsill overnight to recharge them with nature's "night light", while resetting your own personal intention.
- Sound or Smoke: A simple way to clear energy: use a tuning fork, singing bowl, or gentle bell. The vibration helps symbolically reset the energy of your jewelry, especially pieces you wear daily. You can also pass your jewelry through the smoke of incense, garden herbs, or palo santo for a visual and sensory symbol of cleansing and calming reset.
7. Love & Wear Often
Finally — wear your jewelry! The natural oils from your skin can actually help keep some stones hydrated and glowing, and simply wearing your jewelry is a natural anti-tarnish for certain metals like sterling silver. These adornments are meant to be worn and loved, and are part of your journey. I hope they bring extra beauty, joy, and thoughtfulness into your world.
Ultimately, taking care of our jewelry will ensure you and yours can enjoy them for years to come! Thank you for taking the time to read and care for your adornments. Feel free to pass it along to a friend, and check out the shop for your next meaningful piece of jewelry for your journey.
